The CXSU63133 is a compact, PFM mode, and step-upnIq嘉泰姆

DC-DC converter with low quiescent current. The inter-nIq嘉泰姆
nal synchronous rectifier reduces cost and PCB spacenIq嘉泰姆
by eliminating the need for an external Schottky diode.nIq嘉泰姆
Low on-resistance of the internal switches improves thenIq嘉泰姆
efficiency up to 92%. The start-up voltage is guaranteednIq嘉泰姆
below 1V. After start-up, the device can operate with inputnIq嘉泰姆
voltage down to 0.7V. The CXSU63133 is suitable for por-nIq嘉泰姆
table battery-powered applications. Consuming only 11μAnIq嘉泰姆
quiescent current and an optimized control scheme al-nIq嘉泰姆
lows the device to operate at very high efficiency over thenIq嘉泰姆

Inductor SelectionnIq嘉泰姆
The inductor value determines the inductor ripple currentnIq嘉泰姆
and affects the load transient response. It is recom-nIq嘉泰姆
mended to select the boost inductor in order to keep thenIq嘉泰姆
maximum peak inductor current below the current limitnIq嘉泰姆
threshold of the power switch. For example, the currentnIq嘉泰姆
limit threshold of the CXSU63133’s switch is 600mA. FornIq嘉泰姆
choosing an inductor which has peak current passed,nIq嘉泰姆
firstly, it is necessary to consider the output load (IOUT),nIq嘉泰姆
input (VIN), and output voltage (VOUT). Secondly, the de-nIq嘉泰姆
sired current ripple in the inductor also needed to benIq嘉泰姆
taken into account. The current was calculated in “OutputnIq嘉泰姆
Capacitor Selection”. Since the output ripple is the prod-nIq嘉泰姆
uct of the peak inductor current and the output capacitornIq嘉泰姆
ESR, the larger inductor value reduces the inductor cur-nIq嘉泰姆
rent ripple and output voltage ripple but typically offers anIq嘉泰姆
larger physical size.nIq嘉泰姆

The converter monitors the output voltage. When the in-nIq嘉泰姆
ternal feedback voltage falls below the reference voltage,nIq嘉泰姆
the main switch turns on and the inductor current rampsnIq嘉泰姆
up. The main switch turns off when the current reachesnIq嘉泰姆
the peak current limit of typical 600mA. The second crite-nIq嘉泰姆
rion that turns off the switch is the maximum on-time ofnIq嘉泰姆
4μs (typical). As the main switch is turned off, the syn-nIq嘉泰姆
chronous switch is turned on and delivers the current tonIq嘉泰姆
the output. The main switch remains off for a minimum ofnIq嘉泰姆
900ns (typical), or until the internal feedback voltage dropsnIq嘉泰姆
below the reference voltage. By the control scheme withnIq嘉泰姆
low quiescent current of 11μA (typical), the converter getsnIq嘉泰姆
high efficiency over a wide load range. nIq嘉泰姆
Start-UpnIq嘉泰姆
A startup oscillator circuit is integrated in the CXSU63133.nIq嘉泰姆
When the power is applied to the device, the circuit pumpsnIq嘉泰姆
the output voltage high. Once the output voltage reachesnIq嘉泰姆
1.4V (typ), the main DC-DC circuitry turns on and boostsnIq嘉泰姆
the output voltage to the final regulation point.nIq嘉泰姆
Synchronous RectificationnIq嘉泰姆
The internal synchronous rectifier eliminates the neednIq嘉泰姆
for an external Schottky diode, thus, reducing cost andnIq嘉泰姆
board space. During the cycle off-time, the P-channelnIq嘉泰姆
MOSFET turns on and shunts the MOSFET body diode.nIq嘉泰姆
As a result, the synchronous rectifier significantly improvesnIq嘉泰姆
efficiency without the addition of an external component.nIq嘉泰姆
Conversion efficiency can be as high as 92%. nIq嘉泰姆
Over-Temperature ProtectionnIq嘉泰姆
The over-temperature circuit limits the junction tempera-nIq嘉泰姆
ture of the CXSU63133. When the junction temperature ex-nIq嘉泰姆
ceeds 150°C, a thermal sensor turns off the powernIq嘉泰姆
MOSFETs, allowing the devices to cool. The thermal sen-nIq嘉泰姆
sor allows the converter to start a start-up process andnIq嘉泰姆
regulate the output voltage again after the junction tem-nIq嘉泰姆
perature cools by 40°C. The OTP is designed with a 40°CnIq嘉泰姆
hysteresis to lower the average TJ during continuous ther-nIq嘉泰姆
mal overload conditions, increasing lifetime of the device.nIq嘉泰姆
