FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTIONYXZ嘉泰姆

CXSD61038 is a synchronous buck regulator IC that integrates the PWM/PFM control, topYXZ嘉泰姆
and bottom switches on the same die to minimize the switching transition loss andYXZ嘉泰姆
conduction loss. With ultra low RDS(ON) power switches and proprietary PWM control,YXZ嘉泰姆
this regulator IC can achieve the highest efficiency and the highest switch frequencyYXZ嘉泰姆
simultaneously to minimize the external inductor and capacitor size, and thusYXZ嘉泰姆
achieving the minimum solution footprint.The CXSD61038 requires only three externalYXZ嘉泰姆
power components (Cin, Cout and L). Theadjustable version can be programmedYXZ嘉泰姆
with external feedback to any voltage,ranging from 0.6V to the input voltage.YXZ嘉泰姆
At dropout, the converter duty cycle increases to 100% and the output voltageYXZ嘉泰姆
tracks the input voltage minus the Rdson drop of the high-side MOSFET.YXZ嘉泰姆
The internal error amplifier and compensation provides excellent transient response, load,YXZ嘉泰姆
and line regulation. Soft start function prevents input inrush current and outputYXZ嘉泰姆
overshoot during start up.YXZ嘉泰姆
Inductor SelectionYXZ嘉泰姆
For most designs, the CXSD61038 operates with inductors of 1μH to 4.7μH. Low inductanceYXZ嘉泰姆
values are physically smaller but require faster switching, which results in some efficiency loss.YXZ嘉泰姆
The inductor value can be derived from the following equation:YXZ嘉泰姆
L =VIN × ∆I L × f OSC YXZ嘉泰姆
Where ∆I L is inductor Ripple Current. Large value inductors result in lower ripple current andYXZ嘉泰姆
small value inductors result in high ripple current. For optimum voltage-positioning loadYXZ嘉泰姆
transients, choose an inductor with DC series resistance in the 50mΩ to 150mΩ range.YXZ嘉泰姆
Input Capacitor SelectionYXZ嘉泰姆
With the maximum load current at 1.5A, the maximum ripple current through input capacitorYXZ嘉泰姆
is about 0.6Arms. A typical X7R or better grade ceramic capacitor with 6V rating and greaterYXZ嘉泰姆
than 10uF capacitance can handle this ripple current well. To minimize the potential noiseYXZ嘉泰姆
problem, place this ceramic capacitor really close to the IN andYXZ嘉泰姆
GND pins. Care should be taken to minimizethe loop area formed by CIN, and IN/GND pins. YXZ嘉泰姆
Output Capacitor Selection YXZ嘉泰姆
The output capacitor is required to keep the output voltage ripple small and to ensureYXZ嘉泰姆
regulation loop stability. The output capacitor must have low impedance at the switchingYXZ嘉泰姆
frequency. Ceramic capacitors with X5R or X7R dielectrics are recommended due to their lowYXZ嘉泰姆
ESR and high ripple current ratings. The outputripple VOUT is determined by:YXZ嘉泰姆

1. The power traces, consisting of the GND trace, the SW trace and the VIN traceshould be kept short,YXZ嘉泰姆
    direct and wide.YXZ嘉泰姆
2. Does the (+) plates of Cin connect to Vin as closely as possible? This capacitor provides the AC currentYXZ嘉泰姆
    to the internal power MOSFETs.YXZ嘉泰姆
3. Keep the switching node, SW, away from the sensitive VOUT node.YXZ嘉泰姆
4. Keep the (-) plates of Cin and Cout as close as possibleYXZ嘉泰姆
